Diwali 2017
Deepavali is the festival of lights. About 15 days after Navrathri is this beautiful festival of lights.
Even though it is just 1 day, North Indians celebrate it over 4-5 days.
Dhanteras (buying/gifting of gold), Chotti (small) Diwali, Badi (big) Diwali, Bhai Dooj (Sisters gift their brothers) is the North Indian order.
We celebrate the arrival of Lord Ram back to Ayodhya after his 14 years of exile. We celebrate the annihilation of Narakasura by Goddess Durga. Either way, it is time for festivities!
I got an order to make a Ganapathy and HE was to be a Diwali gift. So I had to parcel HIM off by 4 or 5th October.
Yes. I look tired. But making a painting in 15 days is a tough task!
Now that the painting was done, I could concentrate on the cooking and cleaning.
We start preparing Sweet and Kaaram (savoury) items for distribution to Friends and family.
We clean out our homes before Diwali and stock new items.
Our homes all wear a clean look.
We hang a garland made of Mango leaves outside our homes. Draw kolam / rangoli and our gods are all bedecked with Floral garlands.
On Diwali day, we get up early (3 am) and take an oil bath and wear new clothes AND burst crackers.
Supposedly, the crackers show the fire being exchanged between the Goddess and Demon.
And since there is a deluge of sweets being eaten, we prepare a traditional medicine - Diwali Marundu which HAS to be eaten.

#rangoli
We decorate our homes to bring in cheer.
We pray to God to have a great successful life story in mind for us when he splashes our lives with different shades of happiness. Just like how a rangoli looks great with many colours; our life would be monotonous without varied emotions.

Wish you all a great year!!
A day after South Indian Diwali (or) on the day of the North Indian Diwali....
#lakshmipuja to invite the Goddess of Wealth home. We need wealth not just as money, but also as health, knowledge and thoughts which lead to right actions.
On this day the stock market of #india #BSE #NSE takes 1/2 day off as today is the #accounts #newyear or the day when a new account book is started in the arch firm.
#southindian #Diwali was yesterday, #northindian celebrate like South Indians with loads of #crackers and sweets today.
The building maids decided to do # Diwali cleaning & removed our beautiful #Rangoli It did make us angry/sad; but we saw an opportunity to show off our talent! 😃
Presenting rangoli 2!
And my Tanjore painting - Annapoorneswary got finished!
Made Unni appam with wheat on North Indian Diwali day. Don't ask me why i made a thoroughly South Indian sweet on such a day....but .. but...
