With Acharyasri Vishakam Tirunaal

Today’s (28 July 2022) lecture at #ernakulathappan #temple on Ramayana was in SANSKRIT! Yes, #sanskrit.
Language of the gods. #hinduism
#language which is age old but still most technical.

And the #lecture was given by Acharyasri Vishakam Tirunaal. A multifaceted person. Proficient in many #indianlanguages (incl.Nepali), violinist, corporate retiree, organic healer.
He started learning Sanskrit post retirement from YouTube !!

Did I understand his lecture today?
Yes. Somewhat. It was not as hard as I thought it would be.
After all #malayalam and most #indian languages have their #root here.

His topic was “Ramayanam Shastrameemamsa” - Governance according to Ramayana.

Ramayana has 24,000 #shlokas and there is an ‘eka shloka Ramayana’ - meaning the whole epic is condensed into 4 sentences.

When I recite this as a #prayer everyday, I see only the superficial story line of the #epic in it. But he shed a different light on these seemingly light verse and explained the #governance strategies to be followed to run a successful nation.

He started by saying Rama represents a king and Seetha - a nation.
Tapovana gamanam- good education is a must for a ruler
Hatva mrigam kaanchanam -  All “get rich quick” scheme are to be eliminated.
Vaidehi Haranam - A nation invaded
Jatayu maranam - the role of spies

And the next part …
‘Sugreeva sambashanam, Bali nigragahanam’ was explained thus.

Even though everyone knows that Bali is stronger than Sugreeva and just one message from him to Ravana would make the latter release Seetha, Lord Ram chose to make friends with his not-so-powerful and in exile brother Sugreeva. Why?
#lesson : Never make a deal with someone stronger than you to reclaim / achieve your ends, as you will always remain indebted.

India can learn so much from Ramayana as can you and I!!

As he said, the text can be interpreted either as an ordinary layman or with a scholarly vision.

#interesting , isn’t it?
There are more gems in his lecture.
