Red stoned earring

Today I wore a “bottle green” soft silk sari with Temple border… it was gifted to my mother-in law for some function… but now it is mine!😜
And I paired it with very special earrings.

Let us blast to the past.

Radha & Sivan got married in January 1977. It was their nuptial and the first thing Siva told Radha was, ”So, we start our life together…with ₹-2000 (negative two thousand rupees) as bank balance.”
Not a great start to life and surely not something any 19 year old wants to hear on her wedding night.

Soon it was their first wedding anniversary. He had to gift his expectant wife something. They went together to the jewellery store with a fixed budget. (Unniyattil Kuttan Menon jewels)

A red stoned gold earring with dangling pearls caught their fancy and it was perfect in every sense. Beautiful and pocket-friendly.

That earring was so attractive that a very rich Chettiar’s wife decided she had to own it. She lured Radha showing her a whole box filled with gold earrings and jhumka and asking her to choose any.

But the red stoned earrings were not for sale.

These earrings have seen the way young Radha and Siva fought the challenges of life together to be who they are today.

It was given to their daughter on her first wedding anniversary. (1997)

That is … they gave it to me!!😃
Harish and I were in the late 90’s as my parents were financially in the late 70’s.

And this earring has now seen our journey too!

It is loaded in sentimental value!!

And we now wish to pass it on to generations to come as a heirloom piece.

It awaits my Anaka’s first wedding anniversary.

Yes. The earings is also very very special because it is also lucky to be possessed by very special people who value relations and traditions.
