Bengal Silk Sari
Tring....
Went my phone…
An unrecognised number…
Hmm… True caller is not working…
I pick it up…
“Radha madam?”, said the male voice on the other end.
“No. Anuradha here.”
“ I got your number from Mrs. —- —-. “
The voice continued,”You know her, right?”
That was a name from the past…a brief acquaintance.
I said as much. The lack of thrill in my tone must have put him in a dilemma & he decided to come straight to the point,”I am from Dhaka, Bangladesh. I sell sari and she gave me your contact as she thought you are a sari aficionado. Yesterday, she and her friends bought a lot of sari from me. I have a huge collection.”
He had switched to Hindi in between the monologue.
And I said,”मुझे नहीं चाहिए।
He was a business man from afar, “एक बार देख लीजिए। I have Bengal silk, Cotton & mulmul. Soft and beautiful sari, madam.”
😐
I ended the conversation with a firm No & thank you.
It is true that I do not want any more saris but most importantly, I am an Indian. Proud Indian. I would rather give business to my country people than foreigners. #makeinindia #wearindian
It was then that I remembered this sari.
I had bought it in #calcutta years ago when I had gone to attend my brother’s graduation from #iim .
Bengal silk.
Bright yellow with black thread work.
Harish does not particularly like it. And his face this morning said so amply! At the temple, I first greeted at the gate by a compliment and later got teased by others linking me to certain political parties!!
Ahem.
Whatever.😅😃
