Anish & Kiran

Harish & I were fighting. 

Bare mini exchange of words.

Mostly grunts, nods and vague haa’s…

He went to temple that Sunday and I opened the door holding the dosa spatula in hand. His eyes were downcast & I was seriously frowning. Who will talk first?

Ernakulathappan must have toned him down a bit and he blurted that he met Anish at the temple. 

Now that Harish had spoken; to maintain decorum (not really, I wanted more information!😈😜), I asked him how long he is here.

“Just a fleeting weekend trip”, Harish said and we both went back to the fighting status.

For me the connotation of weekend trips is not positive. So I messaged Anish & asked if all is well.

“This is a happy trip. Will call ya in sometime.” Was the reply.

Post lunch, Harish was staring at his screen and I was lounging on the sofa. My phone rings. Anish calling. I start talking to him when I hear another voice.. a female recognisable sound. The age of ‘cross connection’ as with land lines is over. So, what is happening??

Suddenly, he says I will FaceTime you. And Kiran joins in on the call. 

Anish is part of one gang & Kiran another at Ernakulathappan temple. I know both the gangs and have never seen both mixing. So why were they calling together?

Then Michael Madan Kamarajan scene of Kamala Hassan - Urvashi played out.

Nokka ? Nekka? Nokkum-nekkuma??

What? 

Are they saying that they got engaged?? No.

I had not seen this happening.

Really??

YES!

I was NOT expecting that. And I oscillated from disbelief to laughter. I cried tears of joy and screamed, “Harish, look…look what happened??”

That poor fella was happily reclining and enjoying his Sunday peace. 

He gracefully congratulated them while I was blabbering in the background. Kiran says she saw a ‘expression’ on his face for the first time!!

“Anu akka, you are the first person we both called together to inform”, they said.

After the phone call, my adrenaline was very high and I completely forgot about the fight. I tried to piece together all episodes where I had seen them both. Harish was my ‘listener’. 

എന്തായാലും…fight ended. 

And yesterday was their ‘official’ engagement with ring exchange, photos & sadya.
